Exclusive Interview between Jorge Cota (JC) and Kalin Stanishev (UT):

UT: Hello. Please introduce yourself and the band.
JC: Thanks for the contacting us, Kalin, I’m Jorge Cota, Desperata’s vocalist. Desperata is comprised by Nelson Garcia and Leonardo Vieira on the guitars, Alexandre Vieira on bass and by me on the vocals. We have been auditioning drummers for the band at the moment.

UT: Which bands influenced you most?
JC: Nevermore / Evergrey / Metallica / Pantera/ Amorphis / Dream Theater / Sentenced / Savatage / Faith No More / Overdose / Alice in Chains / Symphony X

UT: You're a new band, what made you participate in a free music project?
JC: Well, we are fully aware of the way things have been working for new bands these days. We know that we can’t count on the same promotional channels the bands in the past used to count on. In fact, we can say that nowadays we have a much broader spectrum of possibilities regarding that issue but, on the other hand, a thousand new good bands are born each second around the world. We don’t think we can’t survive if we don’t have our music promoted by a record label or any musical industry related company. Many acclaimed bands have changed the way they deal with their needs to make their music reach their the more demanding fans. So, we are open to grab any opportunities that happen to cross our way. We want our music to be heard all over the world, if we ever happen to make any profit out of our music, that will be ok, but it is not our aim now. Making our music accessible to as many people as possible is what we’ve been working now. That’s why participating in YouRock sounds so interesting to us.

UT: Do you think the fans would appreciate your efforts and the fact that you offer your music completely free?
JC: I hope so! Only bands who have their careers already established would be worried about that, since they have much bigger costs behind their process of producing a new record. That’s not our case! We, Desperata, were already bred inside the downloading-for-free culture!

UT: What do you expect to gain from YouRock?
JC: New friends, new fans and new contacts, from Bulgaria or from any other country in the world.

UT: What were your major concerns when you decided to join us?
JC: I’ve noticed that there is an active Metal scene in Bulgaria, and I thought that would be an interesting and promising ground for us to start our international promotional campaign. In addition to that, I realized YouRock is linked to many other bands who are probably at the same stage in their careers that we are. So I guess we all have lots of tips we could learn and share from each other.

UT: What are the plans for the band?
JC: To record albums and tour all over the world!

UT: Do you think there would be many other bands and artists to join from now on?
JC: Of course there are lots of bands missing the kind of promotional support and partnership you offer. In my hometown ( Belo Horizonte ), for instance, there are lots of good bands who would appreciate getting support from YouRock! We had a very influential metal scene in Belo Horizonte back in the 80’s ( from which the band Sepultura arose to worldwide fame ), so we are kind of resuscitating our city metal tradition through a movement called M3 - Movimento Metal Mineiro ( p.s - I’d like to seize the opportunity here to invite all of you who are reading this interview to check it at http://www.myspace.com/movimentometalmineiro )

UT: Is it better that such a project is being organized from such a small country as Bulgaria?
JC: I guess so! Bigger countries’ websites have an almost infinite number of bands of their own to deal with. We would be just one amongst thousands. I’m not stating that their support would be of less importance for our growth as a band, but our efforts to achieve their readers would probably get less recognition and compensation.

UT: Do you know anything about our country (Bulgaria)?
JC: I recall attending a concert by a Bulgarian female choir whose name I can't remember now, but I found them amazing! I also know you used to have very competitive volleyball teams, which have played against Brazil many time here in Belo Horizonte. Stoichkov was a fabulous soccer player. I once heard about a rocker politician who once said he would support regular Metal festivals in the town he was a representative of. Then I started reading about some festivals actually happening in Bulgaria ( maybe you can tell me if they have any connection with that man I've mentioned above, if so, he’ll get our votes, lol ). Brazil's current president is of Bulgarian descent. But what called most of my attention to Bulgaria recently is the fact that many bands ( such as Helloween, Manowar, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax ) have chosen the country to record their dvds, probably due to Bulgarians' passion for Rock and Metal, what is something, I guess, Brazilians and Bulgarians have in commom! You Rock !!!

UT: What should the fans know when coming to your YouRock page?
JC: They should know that DESPERATA is a band who can’t be labeled by any word other than Metal. We don’t fit 100% into any of its subgenres. We don’t use pre-established formulas when we are giving birth or performing our music. So, I guess in order to appreciate our work, people should get rid of musical prejudice, keep an open mind, and listen to it with their hearts! Welcome to the realms of DESPERATA!

UT: Final words.
JC: I’d like, on behalf of all Desperata members, thank Kalin so much for his dedication on promoting good music and allowing us to become part of his praiseworthy endeavor! Keep Metal Alive! You Rock, man!
